Evaluating Your Own Plays In Poker!

poker-main_FullWe all know that poker is a game that is very, very hard to master – however, there are a ton of different tips and tricks out there and that is what we are here for.

We are here to bring you those tips and tricks right to your fingertips and make sure that you know how to play the best game of your line.  Did you know that evaluating your own game is actually a very important step when you are playing poker?

While most things the trial and error method works, with poker it doesn’t, because you are actually playing with money and you do not want to lose a bunch of money in this particular phase.  Evaluating your own game is also an important part of maintaining and gaining an ego about your poker game – which is good in poker.

Keys to Playing Texas Hold ‘Em Online: 2

hold 2A lot of people have debated the disadvantages of online poker. What it all comes down to is that there are two primary reasons why online Hold ‘Em isn’t as great as playing it live.

For one thing, it may be easier for you to bluff, but it is harder for you to spot a bluff. You cannot look into the eyes of the other players, thus analyzing or maybe even intimidate them.

You thus have to be extremely careful about making your plays. Remember, you could be playing against anyone.

Then, too, online Hold ‘Em provides an excellent way for novice players to get used to the game. And, of course, the option of being able to play in your underwear is always a plus.

Keys to Playing Texas Hold ‘Em Online: 1

hold 1As we have seen, Texas Hold ‘Em is a big favorite, and many people are flocking to play it online — but playing it on the internet is much different from playing in a bricks and mortar casino.

There are some merits to playing the game online, but there are some cons as well. Speaking of advantages, you do not need to wear sunglasses to bluff, of course! As well, you are playing against actual players rather than playing against the bank. You get to pick a table and in a matter of minutes, you are ready to play.

What could be better, right? The problem is that a lot of people get caught up in the ease and convenience, and they forget what a tricky place the internet can be. Stick with me, though, and we will go a long way towards taking care of that problem.

Variations on Texas Hold ‘Em: 2

hold-em-2Okay, so — another variation of Texas Hold ‘Em is known as Spread Limit Texas Hold ‘Em. In this game, the rules are similar to what you will see in a game of fixed limit Texas Hold ‘Em. However, on difference is that the bettors are allowed to bet whatever amount of money they like, just as long as it lies between the previously decided minimum bets and maximum bets.

So, in other words, if the current game has a 10 to 30 spread limit, then the player can make any bet between ten bucks and thirty bucks. Simple enough, right? Kind of. The other thing is that every bet and every raise has to either be equal to or more than the previous raise or bet, unless someone goes all in.

When that happens, if the all in amount does not equal out to at least the amount of the previous raise, then the person who raised originally cannot reraise. So, say Player 1 goes in for twenty bucks, Player 2 decides to call, and Player C goes all in, but for less than forty dollars. In that case, Player 1 can’t reraise.

Variations on Texas Hold ‘Em: 1

hold-em-1Now, as must of us know — even if you are only starting to get interested in poker and are not yet an expert — Texas Hold ‘Em is the most popular poker game right now. When I was younger and played poker at camp — either for matchsticks or pennies; it was the real big time — all we knew about was Five Card or Seven Card Draw or Stud. These days, though, it is all about the Hold ‘Em — but did you know there are actually quite a few sub variations of this popular variation? Not a lot of folks do, so throughout the next couple of posts, we are going to take a look at some of the most often played sub versions.

We begin with Kill and Half Kill Texas Hold ‘Em. Here, in a Kill game, if a player is able to meet a very special, specific condition, such as winning two or more pots in succession, then the stakes get doubled for the hand after that.

In a Half Kill game, the stakes go up by fifty percent. The player in question has to post ablind which is equal to the brand new low limit.

wsopThe 2009 World Series of Poker is getting a lot of attention, even more so than in recent years.  More and more people are paying attention to the current standings so, in the spirit of keeping with all the current poker trends, we are going to take a look at some of the latest standings, plays, and flubs, going on in Round 6 of the 2009 WSOP.

Quite a lot of big name players have been moved to the Amazon Room, including Phil Hellmuth, Jerry Yang, and John Juanda. Erica Schoenburg was eliminated today, as were Maridu Mayrinck, Praz Banzi, and T. J. Cloutier.

After winning a hand in the Amazon Room this round, Phil Hellmuth won a hand. Based on the latest standings I’ve been able to find, right now he has approximate 9,500 or so.

Speaking of standings, let’s take a look at how a few of the big names in the tournament are doing:

Nick Binger has 19,300. Brandon Cantu’s got 14,400. Bertrand — Elky — Grospellier isn’t that far behind with 13,000. Liv Boeree has 8,200 and Nam Le stands at 5,300.

Common Indicators in Poker

Poker is game involving not only chance, luck, and strategy, all defined by specific rules, but it requires the involvement of a number of psychological maneuvers as well. Free Poker Photos SiteCovert as well as overt reactions to the cards being dealt as well as different moves in the game can be used by players to obtain information about their opponents’ cards and strategies. These indicators are often referred to as poker tells and they help seasoned players to mask their own emotions while reading those of others to gain an upper hand in the game. In this article we shall discuss some of the common indicators in poker that can be used to gain an edge over the opponents by inferring extra information about their hand.

The posture of the person, both the physical carriage as well as its accompanying attitude can be used to determine the person’s frame of mind. If the player has received a bad hand of cards or is in danger of losing the round you might notice his shoulders beginning to droop and his whole body slumping down in the seat. Strong players on the other hand sit in an upright and focused manner,Poker Books intent on following the game and their opponents’ moves. Also, the posture can be used to determine who is bluffing and who is reacting sincerely. Those players who bluff a lot often sit too rigidly or too casually and keep leaning in towards the table center in an engaging way or sighing a lot. Usually, an extreme reaction can be understood to be a faked one.

Another indicator of the playing style can be seen in the manner in which people stack their poker chips. While these indicators are a broad categorization and cannot be applied to every individual, they are often accurate as they are indicative of the personality type. Psychologically it is derived that people who tend to play in an assertive and hard-line but disorganized manner place their chips in messy, haphazard stacks. Conversely, people with exacting personalities and an eye for detail keep their stacks in a tidy and organized manner which is reflective of their playing styles as well. People who maintain careful stacks are more likely to play a traditional game, conforming to established rules. Those with loosely stacked chips are more likely to make instinctive and unsystematic moves during the game.
